How often should shelving be inspected?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

The UNI EN 15635 standard requires a technical inspection at least once a year by an expert technician: no more than 12 months may pass between inspections. Sotea Sistem carries out preventive inspections<\/a> and shelving maintenance.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Who must have the shelving inspected?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

The warehouse user. Metal shelving is work equipment in all respects under Legislative Decree 81\/08, and the company using it must appoint a person responsible for storage equipment safety (PRSES).<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What happens if the shelving is not compliant?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

At the end of the inspection the technician writes a report listing the damage found and the replacements needed. Our technical department prepares a quote for restoring the damaged components; only after they have been restored is the warehouse declared fit for use, with a certificate to show the competent authorities.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Can damaged components be repaired in-house?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

No. Damaged components may only be repaired if expressly authorised by the supplier of the storage system.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Which standards apply to seismic-resistant shelving?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

Since June 2023 the guidelines for designing and supplying seismic-resistant shelving<\/a> for heavy goods, including the use of forklifts, require compliance with UNI EN 16681 and NTC 2018.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Can an existing warehouse be brought up to seismic standards?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

What is the difference between drive-in and push-back racking?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

Both handle pallets on a LIFO (Last In, First Out) basis. In drive-in<\/a> racking, forklifts drive into the loading lanes for maximum storage density. In push-back<\/a> racking, pallets run on telescopic carts and are loaded and picked from the same side, which suits fast-moving goods.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Which shelving is needed for FIFO rotation?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

You need gravity shelving<\/a>, light or heavy-duty: load units roll on inclined rollers from the loading side to the picking side, so the first in is the first out (First In, First Out).<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What materials are stored on cantilever racking?<\/h3>\n
\n\n

Use cantilever racking<\/a>, a modular, self-supporting system for long, bulky or irregularly shaped materials such as pipes, panels and metal or wooden profiles.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
