How often should shelving be inspected?
The UNI EN 15635 standard requires a technical inspection at least once a year by an expert technician: no more than 12 months may pass between inspections. Sotea Sistem carries out preventive inspections and shelving maintenance.
Who must have the shelving inspected?
The warehouse user. Metal shelving is work equipment in all respects under Legislative Decree 81/08, and the company using it must appoint a person responsible for storage equipment safety (PRSES).
What happens if the shelving is not compliant?
At the end of the inspection the technician writes a report listing the damage found and the replacements needed. Our technical department prepares a quote for restoring the damaged components; only after they have been restored is the warehouse declared fit for use, with a certificate to show the competent authorities.
Can damaged components be repaired in-house?
No. Damaged components may only be repaired if expressly authorised by the supplier of the storage system.
Which standards apply to seismic-resistant shelving?
Since June 2023 the guidelines for designing and supplying seismic-resistant shelving for heavy goods, including the use of forklifts, require compliance with UNI EN 16681 and NTC 2018.
Can an existing warehouse be brought up to seismic standards?
Yes. Sotea Sistem's technical team handles both the upgrading of existing installations and the design of new compliant structures.
What is the difference between drive-in and push-back racking?
Which shelving is needed for FIFO rotation?
You need gravity shelving, light or heavy-duty: load units roll on inclined rollers from the loading side to the picking side, so the first in is the first out (First In, First Out).
What materials are stored on cantilever racking?
Use cantilever racking, a modular, self-supporting system for long, bulky or irregularly shaped materials such as pipes, panels and metal or wooden profiles.
